WILDLIFE PROTECTION
The developers of Watkins Mill Town Center have gone to unusual lengths to protect the wildlife as the new site was transformed into a vibrant urban core. Besides relocating the deer, foxes, and beaver found on the site, the project was home to many native box turtles. Working with the City of Gaithersburg and the Humane Society of the United States, a program of temporarily relocating the turtles to a separate "corralled area", where they became part of a scientific project tracking their natural movements.
