Environmental Considerations: Watkins Mill Town Center will be developed in a manner that is sensitive to the natural beauty of the site.
Parks and Green Space
- Approximately 14 acres dedicated as City Park
- More than a third of the site is preserved for forest conservation, parks, streams, trails, bicycle paths, walkways and open space
- Nearly two miles of trails and paths for biking, walking and running installed throughout the site to allow for connectivity and enjoyment of the natural setting. This includes access to the adjoining 10 square mile Great Seneca Park, one of the largest parks in the state
- Planting of natural grasses rather than fertilized, mowed turf near streams
- Wildlife safe passage routes under the new Watkins Mill Road
Tree Save
- More than 2,000 new trees being planted
- 31.15 acres preserved, with 7.4 acres being given to the City
- Planting 12.70 acres of new forest
- 4.5 acres of supplementary planting and enhanced forest
- Designing the community around the protection of a specimen Black Gum tree
Stream Valley Restoration
- Advanced stream protection and forest enhancement projects, including 200 linear feet of stream restoration
- Innovative water quality infiltration systems that filter clean water back into the water table
